Ingredients
1 large onion, cut into petal-style wedges
1 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
Β½ teaspoon cayenne (optional for heat)
Β½ teaspoon salt
1 cup cold beer (any light beer works)
olive oil or vegetable oil for frying
Ranch or spicy mayo for dipping
Directions
- Make the Batter: In a bowl, whisk together flour, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne, and salt. Slowly whisk in the beer until a smooth batter forms.
- Prep the Onion: Cut the onion into petal-style chunks. Separate layers slightly and pat dry with paper towels.
- Heat the Oil: In a deep frying pan or cast iron skillet, heat 1β2 inches of oil over medium-high heat until hot (350Β°F).
- Coat & Fry: Dip each petal into the batter, let excess drip off, then carefully drop into the hot oil. Fry in batches for 2β3 minutes per side or until golden brown.
- Drain & Serve: Transfer to paper towels to drain. Serve hot with dipping sauce.
