Ingredients
1/2 loaf French bread, sliced lengthwise
1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1 clove fresh garlic, minced
3/4 cup ketchup
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp mustard
1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Salt and pepper, to taste
Directions
- Cook the Filling: Brown ground beef in a skillet with chopped onion and garlic until fully cooked. Drain grease.
- Add Sauce: Stir in ketchup, mustard, and brown sugar. Simmer 2–3 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
- Assemble: Place French bread halves cut-side up on a baking sheet. Spoon sloppy joe mixture evenly over each half.
- Top & Toast: Sprinkle with mozzarella and broil 2–3 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve: Slice into pieces and serve warm.
